How to Check for Leaks

1. Meter Test
Turn off all water in your house

Check your water meter

If it’s still moving — even slowly — you’ve got a leak somewhere

Then, shut off the sprinkler system’s main valve.

If the meter stops, the leak is in the sprinkler system

If it keeps running, it’s somewhere else in the house

2. Walk Your Yard
Run each zone manually and look closely around all sprinkler heads and valve boxes

Look for leaks between heads — underground leaks can push water to the surface

3. Check the Controller
Make sure it’s not set to run more frequently than you think (accidental double-programming is super common)

Smart systems may have “seasonal adjust” cranked up too high

If You Find a Leak:
Minor: Replace broken heads, clean clogged nozzles, or tighten fittings

Underground pipe leaks: May need pro help, especially if you see pooling but no visible break
